There are fewer tourist sites to help me find Southeast Tennessee Festivals and Events for September 2021 than the rest of East Tennessee has, but I managed to find some interesting ones. You can check out the lists for Middle East Tennessee and Northeast Tennessee to find more events.

With Covid-19 still very active we advise checking websites or Facebook pages or calling ahead to make sure any of these you plan to attend haven’t been canceled or decided to change times and dates. For your own and everyone else’s protection please wear your masks in crowded areas and follow any safety rules these events have in place.

The Event List (in calendar order)

2nd

The Hunter Museum in Chattanooga is having a Throwback Thursday. Admission to the permanent collection will be free. Admission to the current exhibition Power, Passion & Pose: Photographs by Ken Browar and Deborah Ory will be $5.

5th

There will be a Street Food Festival at the Chattanooga Market. The area’s best food trucks will be alongside the Sunday market. Tacos, stir-fry, pizza, empanadas, BBQ, salad, ice cream, donuts, and more. There will be something for everyone and foodies should really enjoy themselves.

10th through 12th

The Mountaineer Folk Festival is held annually at Fall Creek Falls Park between Pikeville and Spencer the weekend after Labor Day. This festival features traditional music, handmade crafts, storytelling, folk culture exhibits, and pioneer demonstrations. There will, of course, be food and you can hike in the park. Admission is free.

11th

You most likely already know about the Moon River Festival in Chattanooga, a big music festival on the 11th and 12th. Tickets to it are already sold out. If you have tickets remember that proof of full vaccination or a negative Covid test will be required to enter. 

The International Cowpea Festival & Cook-off will take place at Charleston City Park in Charleston. Live music, arts and crafts vendors, games, and a petting zoo to help celebrate this bean with a funny name. Taste chef’s cowpea culinary creations and vote on your favorite or just enjoy other food from the many vendors. Tickets are $5 and Parking is free.

The regular Saturday Farmer’s Market at Collegedale Commons in Ooltewah will be expanded on the 11th to a bit of a Fall Festival Market. Besides the regular produce vendors there will petting zoo and pony rides. Extra food and other vendors will help you prepare for the fall. Admission and parking are free.

18th

There will be a Farm and Family Day at the Boys & Girls Club in Benton. This event features a tractor show and a silent auction. there will be craft vendors, contests, live demonstrations, and more. Barbecue plates and homemade ice cream will be sold with the proceeds benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Benton. Admission is free.

18th through 20th

The 158th Anniversary of the Battle of Chickamauga will be celebrated at the Chickamauga, GA and Chattanooga, TN National Military Parks. An artillery demonstration and various programs while doing caravans, biking, or walking tours of the area will detail the events of the battle. Kids are encouraged to stop by the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center to pick up a special packet and explore the area to receive a Jr. Ranger patch for the event. 29th through October 2nd

The Bigfoot Fall Festival and Grundy County Fair will be held at Baggenstoss Farms in Tracy City. There is an opening night, faith night, kids day, and a music-boots-and-denim day. Each asks you to wear a specific color and each has its own special events like fireworks, a children’s choir, petting zoo, and a Shenandoah concert. Every day has ziplines, carnival rides, food trucks, various vendors, and a whole lot more. I’m not sure where Bigfoot figures in but I’m sure there is something. 4-day all-inclusive passes are $100. Single Day admission is $15 with the additional purchase of $25 to $35 armbands (I think they are for rides and/or some concerts). Prepurchase and senior discounts are available.

Ending Thoughts

I’ve found the fewest entries for my Southeast Tennessee Festivals and Events for September 2021 list. Still, there are some interesting events if you are looking for something to do.

I will try to add to this post and update information (especially about cancelations) at least once a week.

I plan to write posts like this (and its Middle East Tennessee and Northeast Tennessee counterparts) every month on the last weekend to inform people about the upcoming months’ events.
